The Adi Jagannatha Temple in Thiruppullani, a village near Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Vishnu and built in the Cholan style of Dravidian architecture. Believed to have been constructed in the late 8th century with subsequent additions by Medieval Cholas, later Pandyas, and Madurai Nayak rulers, the temple is one of the 108 Divya Desam, the most sacred Vaishnava pilgrimage sites. According to Hindu tradition, the village's name derives from an episode when Rama used grass as a pillow while performing penance to the ocean god for passage to Lanka. Within the temple, Vishnu is worshipped as Adi Jagannatha and his consort Lakshmi as Padmasini. The temple was celebrated in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, the foundational Tamil devotional canon composed by the Alvar saints between the 6th and 9th centuries.
