The Tillman Shaw House, a two-story brick residence at 500 South 19th Street in Fort Smith, Arkansas, exemplifies the architectural eclecticism of early twentieth-century residential design. Built in 1909 by Tillman Shaw, a prosperous saloon owner, the house combines a basic American Foursquare structure with stylistic elements drawn from Mission Revival, Prairie School, and Colonial Revival traditions. Set on an artificially raised plot that distinguishes it from the smaller houses surrounding it, the building reflects Shaw's wealth during Fort Smith's frontier period. The onset of Prohibition devastated Shaw's fortunes, leading him to sell the property in 1919. The house was recognized for its historical and architectural significance when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
