Traveler's Rest, located in Lincoln County, Kentucky, is a Colonial Revival house built in 1906 on the site of an earlier limestone dwelling destroyed by fire in 1905. The brick two-story structure, designed in Georgian and Federal revival styles, stands on property historically significant as the home of Isaac Shelby, Kentucky's first Governor, who acquired the land through the first preemption deed granted in the state as compensation for surveying work. Original brick slave quarters remain on the grounds, as does the Isaac Shelby Cemetery State Historic Site, where Shelby and his family are interred. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, the house itself remains privately owned and closed to the public, though the cemetery is accessible to visitors.
