Växjö Cathedral in Växjö, Sweden, is a Brick Gothic hall church with a western tower rising 69.5 meters and a square choir, traditionally said to have been founded by Saint Sigfrid of Sweden. The earliest stone church on the site dates to the 1160s, with portions of that structure incorporated into the present building. The cathedral underwent extensive restoration in the 1950s under architect Kurt von Schmalensee, which largely determined its current appearance. Originally constructed from brick beginning around 1300, the cathedral has been substantially altered over the centuries. Few of its original medieval furnishings remain; the artworks adorning the interior today are predominantly from the 20th and 21st centuries, with many fashioned from glass. As the seat of the Bishop of Växjö within the Church of Sweden, the cathedral stands on what was likely a pre-Christian marketplace.
