Built around 1870 in Stoneham, Massachusetts, the Walter K. Foster House at 57 Central Street is one of only three surviving Italianate side hall entry houses in the town. The residence showcases hallmarks of mid-19th-century Italianate and Renaissance Revival design, including paneled pilasters framing the corners with ornate decorative brackets mounted above, and a doorway crowned by a heavy decorated hood. The house belonged to Walter Kittredge Foster, an inventor and owner of a pencil sharpener factory. Recognized for its architectural significance, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and later included in the Central Square Historic District in 1990.
