Located at 96 Pine Street in Waltham, Massachusetts, the Waltham Gas and Electric Company Generating Plant is a Neoclassical concrete-and-stone structure built between 1900 and 1909. Originally designed to house a steam power generator, this early power generation facility remains essentially unaltered despite its transformation in 1917, when Boston Edison acquired it and converted the building into an electrical substation—a function it continues to serve today. The building's window openings have been filled with concrete, though its architectural integrity has otherwise been preserved. It was recognized as a historic resource when listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
