The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, designed by Betty Willis and erected in 1959 by Western Neon, stands as an iconic example of Googie architecture in Clark County, Nevada. Rising 25 meters in the median of Las Vegas Boulevard South, the neon sign was funded in May 1959 at the request of local salesman Ted Rogich and subsequently purchased by the Clark County government. Positioned north of the historic stone pillars of the old McCarran Field, the sign has become widely recognized as marking the southern gateway to the Las Vegas Strip, and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
