Wynn Las Vegas is a luxury resort and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, built on the former site of the Desert Inn resort. Designed by Marnell Corrao Associates and developed by Steve Wynn, the resort opened on April 28, 2005, at a cost of $2.7 billion—the most expensive resort ever built at that time. The 45-story hotel tower, which was Nevada's tallest building upon completion, contains 2,716 rooms and a 111,000-square-foot casino. Unlike typical Strip resorts, Wynn eschews a themed environment, instead featuring an artificial mountain that obscures the attractions and surrounds a three-acre lake, the site of the animatronic show Lake of Dreams. The property includes redesigned golf courses from the former Desert Inn, two shopping areas (Wynn Esplanade and Wynn Plaza), and various dining and entertainment venues. A sister property, Encore Las Vegas, opened in December 2008 directly north of the resort, adding a second hotel tower and expanding the complex to a total of 4,748 rooms and nearly 189,000 square feet of gaming space.
