The Dunes was a hotel and casino that opened on May 23, 1955, designed by architect Maxwell Starkman and located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Originally the tenth resort to open on the Strip, it initially struggled under early management before businessman Major Riddle took control in 1956 and revitalized operations. The resort became a cultural landmark, debuting Las Vegas's first topless show, *Minsky Goes to Paris*, in 1957, and later hosting acclaimed productions by Frederic Apcar. The property expanded significantly throughout its history: a 21-story tower completed in 1965 boosted capacity to 960 rooms, while a second 17-story tower added in 1979 brought the total to 1,282 rooms. The tower was once crowned by the world's tallest free-standing sign, rising 181 feet. Amenities included the Emerald Green golf course, Nevada's longest at 7,240 yards, and themed restaurants such as the underwater-styled Dome of the Sea. The Dunes operated until its demolition in 1993.
