The Venetian Las Vegas is a luxury hotel and casino resort on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, designed by Stubbins Associates and Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo. Construction began in April 1997 on the site of the demolished Sands Hotel, and the resort opened on May 4, 1999, developed by businessman Sheldon Adelson through Las Vegas Sands. Themed after Venice, the property features replicas of the city's landmarks, including a canal with gondola rides and a 120,000-square-foot casino. The original 35-story tower opened with 3,036 suites; a second 12-story tower, the Venezia, was completed in 2003, expanding capacity to 4,049 rooms. Built to serve convention-goers, the resort includes extensive meeting space and the adjacent Venetian Expo. The property also houses the Grand Canal Shoppes and a sphere-shaped entertainment venue called Sphere, which opened in September 2023. When combined with the Palazzo, a sister property that opened in 2007, the complex ranks as the second-largest hotel in the world with approximately 7,100 rooms.
