New York-New York Hotel and Casino, which opened on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, in January 1997, is a 51,765-square-foot casino and 2,024-room hotel designed as a themed recreation of New York City. Built at a cost of $460 million as a joint venture between MGM and Primadonna Resorts, the property features downsized replicas of iconic Manhattan landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building—rendered as a 47-story, 529-foot tower that was Nevada's tallest building until Wynn Las Vegas's completion in 2005. The hotel tower evokes various Manhattan skyscrapers, while the Big Apple Coaster circles the property. After the September 11 attacks, a spontaneous memorial emerged at the resort's Statue of Liberty replica; an official memorial was dedicated in 2003 before being removed during a 2013 façade renovation that included the addition of a Hershey's Chocolate World. The resort has hosted numerous entertainers and productions, including comedian Rita Rudner and the show Zumanity.
