The Boardwalk Hotel and Casino was a Coney Island-themed resort on the Las Vegas Strip that evolved through multiple identities before its demolition. Originally opened in 1966 as a Holiday Inn, it was rebranded as the Viscount in 1985 and merged with the adjacent Slot Joynt casino to become the Boardwalk in 1989. A carnival facade with non-functional ride replicas was added in 1995, followed by a 15-story tower completed in 1996 that brought the property to 653 rooms and expanded the casino to 33,000 square feet. The 8-acre resort gained popularity for affordable accommodations and dining compared to nearby megaresorts. Sold to Mirage Resorts in 1998, the Boardwalk closed in January 2006 to make way for MGM's CityCenter development, and its main tower was imploded in May 2006.
