The West Yellowstone Oregon Shortline Terminus Historic District in Gallatin County, Montana, preserves a ten-acre cluster of 16 structures centered on the 1907 terminus of a railroad spur from Idaho Falls. Built in National Park Service rustic style, the district emerged following the terminus's completion in this remote forested area near Yellowstone's west entrance, catalyzing the town's founding and early development. The Union Pacific Railroad, recognizing tourism's economic potential, expanded facilities between 1910 and 1926 to serve travelers bound for the national park, including a depot, baggage building, dining lodge, dormitories, and boiler building—all designed by the prominent American architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 13, 1983.
