Williamsburg Inn is a historic resort hotel in Williamsburg, Virginia, built in three phases between 1937 and 1972 as part of John D. Rockefeller Jr.'s vision to bring the colonial heritage of Williamsburg to a broader American audience. The original 1937 section, designed by Perry Dean Rogers Architects, exemplifies Colonial Revival style with its distinctive two-story portico crowned by a ground-floor arcade, arranged in an "H"-shaped plan with flanking wings across seven bays of three-story brick construction. The East Wing, also by Perry Dean Rogers Architects, extended the complex with multiple interconnected guest room wings, while a final phase in 1972 added the Regency Dining Room and its adjoining courtyard. The inn has twice hosted Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip—in 1957 and 2007—during their visits commemorating the 350th and 400th anniversaries of the first British colonial settlement. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and a member of Historic Hotels of America, the inn remains a significant example of early twentieth-century American resort architecture.
