The Winfield Smouse House in Washington, Iowa, is a two-story brick residence built in 1916 as a local interpretation of the Prairie School style. Constructed for Winfield Smouse, a prominent businessman who arrived in the town in 1867 and became its wealthiest resident through investments in retail, real estate, and urban development, the house exemplifies early twentieth-century modernist domestic architecture adapted to local building traditions. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, the structure was later converted to commercial use.
