The Yaushev State Music Theater in Saransk, capital of the Mordovian ASSR, was inaugurated on September 1, 1935, with a performance of Carl Millöcker's operetta *Der Bettelstudent*. The opera house seats 714 spectators and was equipped with state-of-the-art amenities for its era, including 138 crystal lamps, rehearsal studios for ballet, a small concert hall, comprehensive backstage facilities, and modern lighting and sound equipment sourced from leading manufacturers in the United States, Germany, England, and Japan. Notable technical features include a rotating stage and an auditorium with variable acoustics. In 1994, the theatre was renamed to honor Illarion Maksimovich Yaushev (1902–1961), an esteemed operatic bass and People's Artist of the Mordovian ASSR.
