Completed in 1993, the Yokohama Landmark Tower rises 296.3 meters in the Minato Mirai 21 district, making it Japan's third tallest building and formerly its highest until 2014. Designed by Hugh Stubbins and Associates and the architecture division of Mitsubishi Estate, this modern skyscraper contains a five-star Yokohama Royal Park Hotel on floors 49–70, with lower levels dedicated to shops, restaurants, offices, and clinics. The tower features Sky Garden, a 360-degree observation deck on the 69th floor offering views across Yokohama and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. The building houses tuned mass dampers on its hidden 71st floor and is renowned for its elevators, which at their 1993 inauguration were the world's fastest, reaching 12.5 meters per second—allowing ascent to the 69th floor in approximately 40 seconds. Though this speed record was later surpassed, the elevators' descent speed remains the fastest globally.
