Standing 161 meters tall in downtown Baltimore, 100 Light Street is a 40-story modernist skyscraper completed in 1973 by architect Vlastimil Koubek. Originally built as the USF&G Building to serve as headquarters for the United States Fidelity and Guarantee Company—a specialized insurance firm founded in Baltimore in 1896—the structure replaced the company's earlier complex of three adjoining early twentieth-century masonry buildings. The tower occupies the city block bounded by South Charles, East Lombard, Light, and East Pratt Streets, facing the Inner Harbor and the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore. It remains the tallest building in Baltimore and Maryland, though it has passed through several corporate occupancies, including the Legg Mason Building and the colloquial designation Transamerica Tower.
