Completed in 1995, 100 North Main Street is a 140-meter postmodern office tower in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, designed by César Pelli. Originally serving as Wachovia bank's corporate headquarters until 2001, the 34-story building stands as the tallest structure in the Piedmont Triad region. Pelli drew inspiration from Moravian architectural traditions prevalent in Winston-Salem, incorporating a Moravian arch in the dome's design and Moravian stars in the lobby mosaics. The tower is sheathed entirely in Olympia white granite sourced from a single Sardinian quarry, and its distinctive 59-foot domed crown—which houses mechanical equipment—makes it the world's only granite-domed skyscraper. Pelli conceived the tower's form as resembling a rosebud about to bloom. The surrounding landscape was designed by Diana Balmori, Pelli's wife and a landscape architect.
