A 36-story postmodern skyscraper completed in 1987 in Lower Manhattan's Financial District, 32 Old Slip (also known as One Financial Square) stands 575 feet tall and was designed by Edward Durell Stone Associates for developer Howard Ronson. The building features a granite and glass facade with distinctive setbacks culminating in an octagonal curtain wall, surrounding a privately owned arcade and plaza at street level. Its roughly 1.16 million square feet of rentable floor space accommodates various office tenants, a Convene convention center, and the New York Regional Office of the United States Census Bureau, while the ground floor houses FDNY Engine Company 4 and Ladder Company 15. The structure was built on the site of the former United States Assay Office (1932), which HRO International acquired in 1983. The building sustained storm damage during Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and was subsequently renovated.
