Completed in 1989, 900 North Michigan is a 265-meter skyscraper in Chicago designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed as an upscale companion to Water Tower Place along the Magnificent Mile. The mixed-use tower combines a prominent retail component—the 900 North Michigan Shops, a six-story atrium anchored by Bloomingdale's at the rear—with offices, a Four Seasons Hotel on middle floors, and residential condominiums above. The retail layout deliberately channels shoppers past luxury boutiques and restaurants via parallel escalators rather than zig-zagging configurations, maximizing Michigan Avenue frontage. The exterior features limestone and green glass cladding, while four illuminated lanterns crown the structure, shifting to festive colors seasonally. A 12-story parking garage with ground-level retail and upper medical facilities occupies the rear of the block. At 871 feet, the building ranks as Chicago's eleventh tallest as of 2023.
