The Al-Askari Shrine in Samarra, Iraq, is a holy site in Shia Islam housing the mausoleums of the tenth and eleventh Imams, Ali al-Hadi and Ḥasan al-Askari. Built in 945, the shrine exemplifies the refined architectural traditions of the Buyid and Qajar periods, its interior enriched with marble, silver, and gold. Beyond the tombs of the two Imams, the mosque also preserves those of Ḥakīma Khātūn, sister of Imam Hadi, and Narjis Khātūn, mother of Imam Mahdi. An adjacent domed commemorative structure marks the cistern associated with the Twelfth Imam's entry into the Minor Occultation, underscoring the shrine's profound spiritual significance in Shia devotion.
