The al-Hussein Mosque, a mosque and mausoleum in Cairo near the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, houses the tomb of Husayn ibn Ali, originally built in 1154 and reconstructed in 1874. Located adjacent to the Al Azhar Mosque in the Al-Hussain district, it ranks among Egypt's holiest Islamic sites. Some Shia believers consider the mosque's shrine to be the burial place of Husayn's head.
