Located in the al-Sayyida Nafisa district of Islamic Cairo's historic al-Qarafa necropolis, this mosque and mausoleum was built in the 9th century CE to honor Sayyida Nafisa, a saint and great-granddaughter of Hasan, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. The structure contains her mashhad (shrine), and as a significant example of Islamic architecture, it has undergone numerous reconstructions since its original construction. The mosque stands within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Islamic Cairo, reflecting the spiritual and architectural importance of this holy burial ground.
