The Athletic Park Band Shell in Plainview, Nebraska is a Moderne-style structure designed by Norfolk architect Elbert B. Watson and constructed between 1939 and 1942 as part of a Works Progress Administration project. The cast-concrete band shell features a 33-foot-diameter arch and is integrated into a 50-by-16-foot building that includes dressing rooms. The complex was originally part of a four-block Athletic Park and is accompanied by five concrete benches, a drinking fountain, and four light posts—all contributing structures listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. The site, now known as Band Shell Park, retains much of its original WPA-era landscaping and is notable as an exceptionally well-preserved example of cast-concrete Moderne construction, distinguishing it from the four other comparable band shells that existed in Nebraska at the time of its listing.
