The Avalon Regal Theater, a music hall in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood, opened in August 1927 as a venue for African-American performers. Designed by architect John Eberson, the theater exemplifies the Moorish Revival style that characterized many American cinemas of the 1920s. Located at 1641 East 79th Street on Chicago's south side, bordering Avalon Park, the building has been known by multiple names throughout its history, including the Avalon Theater and the New Regal Theater.
