Designed by Minneapolis architect Walter R. Dennis and completed by contractor J.P. Johnson in 1930, the Barnard Mortuary in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, is a rare local expression of Mission Revival architecture. Built for Edward T. Barnard—a longtime resident who had transitioned from publishing and retail into the funeral business—the building exemplifies the style through its round arches, projecting balcony, barrel tile roofing, curvilinear gable lines, and smooth stucco surfaces. Barnard operated the mortuary until 1946, after which it changed hands several times. The building was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
