Completed in 2010, the Bitexco Financial Tower is a 68-story skyscraper in Ho Chi Mihn City designed by Venezuelan-born, New York-based architect Carlos Zapata, with French firm AREP serving as architect of record. Rising 262.5 metres, it briefly held the distinction of Vietnam's tallest building before being surpassed in early 2011; it remains the second tallest in the city and fourth in the nation. The tower's distinctive form draws inspiration from Vietnam's national flower, the lotus. Owned by Bitexco Group, a Vietnamese multi-industry corporation focused on real estate, the building houses the company's Ho Chi Minh City representative office. Since its official inauguration on 31 October 2010, the tower has earned international recognition, earning a place among CNN's 25 Great Skyscraper Icons of Construction in 2013 and being named the #2 Coolest Skyscraper in the World by Thrillist in 2015.
