Located at 100 South Main Street in Downtown Los Angeles, the Caltrans District 7 Headquarters is a 13-story high-tech office building designed by the architectural firm Morphosis and completed in 2004. Built on a $165 million budget, the structure serves the California Department of Transportation and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. Architect Thom Mayne's futuristic and environmentally conscious design earned him the 2005 Pritzker Prize. The 716,200-square-foot building occupies a full block bounded by First, Main, Second, and Los Angeles Streets and includes underground parking for 1,142 vehicles. Notable features include the Eli and Edythe Broad public plaza, Motordom—a four-story light installation—a glass-floored third-floor conference room, Code: Survey (168 glass art panels), and distinctive urban landmarks such as an oversized illuminated "100" house number and light-bar cantilevers. The building's design and construction were documented in four episodes of the History Channel's *Modern Marvels* series.
