Located in Gorno Nerezi within Karpoš Municipality, the Church of St. Panteleimon is a small twelfth-century Byzantine monastery church built in 1164 and constructed of brick. Dedicated to the patron saint of physicians, the structure exemplifies Byzantine architectural style and once housed notable frescoes from the Komnenian era of Byzantine art. Though damaged by an earthquake in the 1500s, the church survived, though its original frescoes were painted over during a 1885 restoration attempt before being restored again in 1923. The church's stucco decoration gained further recognition when featured on the obverse of the Macedonian 50 denars banknote, issued in 1996.
