The Dr. Jesse Wasson Building in La Porte City, Iowa, is a late Victorian structure built by Dr. Jesse Wasson for his medical office. Constructed of native limestone, it stands as the oldest surviving example of stone construction in the town and the only extant first-generation commercial building. The two-story edifice features two symmetrical primary façades facing both Main and Locust Streets, each with a centered entry and unified canted detailing. Wasson, who founded La Porte City, was a influential civic figure serving as postmaster, physician, newspaper publisher, mayor, and member of both the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors and Iowa Legislature. From 1914 to 1961, the Knights of Pythias lodge occupied and used the building for their activities. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
