Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is a performing arts centre designed by DP Architects and completed in 2002, situated in Singapore's Downtown Core near the mouth of the Singapore River. The complex comprises two distinctive rounded structures—one containing a concert hall seating approximately 1,600, the other a theatre with a capacity of around 2,000—named after the adjacent Esplanade Park. Its unusual architectural form has earned it the colloquial nickname "The Durian," referencing the tropical fruit's characteristic bumpy exterior.
