The Museo de Arte Popular in Mexico City's historic center occupies a former firehouse and presents the nation's Mexican handcrafts and folk art, including textiles, pottery, glass, piñatas, alebrijes, and furniture. Established in 2006 and designed in the Art Deco style, the museum has become widely recognized as the sponsor of the annual Noche de Alebrijes parade, in which monumental fantastical alebrije creatures are constructed and paraded from the Zocalo to the Angel of Independence monument in a celebrated competition.
