Fossetts Farm Stadium was a proposed football stadium in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, designed by Populous for Southend United to replace the club's home at Roots Hall. First conceived in 1998, the project gained formal planning permission in 2008 under the championing of chairman Ron Martin, initially contingent on financing from adjacent retail and leisure development. A revised scheme agreed in 2020 pivoted to funding through residential development, proposing a 16,226-seat stadium alongside approximately 1,300 new homes split between the Fossetts Farm and Roots Hall sites. However, planning approval for the redesigned plans remained ungranted, and after a consortium purchased Southend United in October 2023, the stadium project was abandoned. The site subsequently shifted focus to housing-only development, with plans for around 805 family homes expected to commence construction in 2026, though the football stadium component was definitively shelved.
