Wembley Stadium in London, England, is the national home of English football and the largest stadium in the UK, with 90,000 seats. Opened in 2007 on the site of the original 1923 stadium, it was designed by Populous and Foster and Partners and built by Australian firm Multiplex at a cost of £798 million. The building is crowned by a distinctive 134-metre-high arch that serves as both a visual landmark across London and a structural element supporting over 75 percent of the roof load. Two partially retractable roof sections over the east and west ends allow natural light and aid pitch growth. Owned by the Football Association, the stadium hosts England national team matches, the FA Cup Final, and numerous other domestic competitions, as well as major European tournaments including Champions League Finals and UEFA Euro matches. It is considered one of the world's most iconic football stadiums and the second-largest in Europe after Barcelona's Camp Nou.
