Built around 1872 in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the Frank E. and Katie Zalesky House is a 2½-story brick dwelling exemplifying the Second Empire style popular in mid-nineteenth-century America. Its most distinctive features include a mansard roof topped with cresting and pierced by dormers, a bracketed cornice, a two-story bay, and windows crowned with heavy hoods. A veranda-like porch adds to its period character. The house reflects Belle Plaine's Bohemian immigrant heritage; the Zalesky family were among the community's prominent members, and notably provided care to František Klácel, a Czech author, philosopher, teacher, and journalist, who spent the final years of his life there. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
