The Gallo Center for the Arts opened in Modesto, California, on September 27, 2007, as a $47 million performing arts facility housing two theaters: the Mary Stuart Rogers Theater and the Foster Family Theater. The center serves as home to six resident companies—Central West Ballet, the Modesto Community Concerts Association, the Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Modesto Performing Arts, Opera Modesto, and YES Company—while hosting touring Broadway productions ranging from Evita and Cats to Shrek: The Musical. A $15 million permanent endowment fund was established at the center's creation to ensure affordable programming and educational initiatives for residents of Stanislaus County and support ongoing facility improvements. Patti LuPone inaugurated the Mary Stuart Rogers Theater with the first performance at the venue.
