Hangover House, a Moderne residence built in 1938 on a hilltop in Laguna Beach, California, was designed by architect William Alexander Levy for his friend travel writer Richard Halliburton. Halliburton had discovered the ridgetop site while riding horseback along the beach in 1930 and purchased it in 1937. The house features three bedrooms—one each for Halliburton, Levy, and Halliburton's secretary and editor Paul Mooney—and commands sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Aliso Canyon. Halliburton invested $42,000 in the site and construction, a substantial sum at the time.
