The Hansahochhaus, a 65-meter office tower completed in 1924–25 in Cologne's Neustadt-Nord district, was designed by local architect Jacob Koerfer in the Brick Expressionist style. Cologne's first skyscraper and among Germany's earliest, its seventeen stories rose in just 135 working days—a remarkably swift pace compared to contemporary American construction, though interruptions extended the total project to fifteen months. Upon completion, it briefly held the distinction of being Europe's tallest building. Now designated an architectural heritage monument in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Hansahochhaus remains a landmark of early twentieth-century German modernism.
