The Kroll Opera House in Berlin's Tiergarten district, on the western edge of Königsplatz (today Platz der Republik), was built in 1844 as an entertainment venue for restaurant owner Joseph Kroll and redesigned as an opera house in 1851. Designed in Renaissance style by architects Friedrich Ludwig Persius and Oskar Kaufmann, the building faced the Reichstag. During the Nazi era, it served as the assembly hall of the Reichstag from 1933 to 1942. Severely damaged by Allied bombing and the Battle of Berlin in World War II, the structure was demolished in 1951.
