Located near Pyongyang's northeast corner, the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun is a brutalist mausoleum completed in 1976 as a conversion of Kim Il Sung's former official residence and assembly hall. The structure now serves as the resting place of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, displayed as the "eternal leaders" of North Korea. Designated in the Socialist Constitution as the "eternal sanctuary of the entire Korean nation," the palace functions as a monumental memorial and is revered as the "sacred temple of Juche," embodying the state ideology through its architecture and symbolic status as a national landmark.
