The M and J Nelson Building is a three-story reinforced concrete commercial structure in downtown McAllen, Texas, constructed between 1948 and 1950 for the J. C. Penney Company. Built in Streamlined Moderne style, the building features distinctive horizontal banding of red and buff brick accented with cast stone trim, aluminum entrance doors and stair rails, and two exterior display cases fronting Chicago Avenue. At the time of its completion, it was among the few buildings in McAllen equipped with both an elevator and air conditioning, marking it as a notably modern commercial landmark. The building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
