The May Company Building, erected in downtown Cleveland in 1914, is a mixed-use structure designed by D. H. Burnham & Company in the Chicago School style. Originally serving as both a department store and apartment building, it exemplifies the commercial and residential integration characteristic of early twentieth-century urban development. The building's architectural approach reflects the Chicago School's emphasis on steel-frame construction and horizontal expression. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the May Company Building remains an important landmark of Cleveland's commercial heritage.
