Located in Des Moines, Iowa, the Minnie Y. and Frank P. Mattes House is a historic Tudor Revival residence completed in 1910 by the prominent architectural firm Proudfoot & Bird. Built for Frank P. Mattes, a brewer from a prominent German-American family, and his wife Minnie Y., the large-scale house was accompanied by an automobile garage, retaining wall, and entrance steps—all constructed as part of the original 1910 project. An early example of Tudor Revival style in Des Moines, it presaged the dominance of this architectural mode in the city throughout the 1920s and 1930s. The property changed hands in 1944 and was acquired by the Drake University sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma in 1959, which undertook additions in 1961 and 1993. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, recognized principally for its association with Proudfoot, Bird & Rawson and as a significant example of their residential work.
