The Motor Mart Building in Sioux City, Iowa, is a pioneering Chicago School structure designed by E.J. Henriques of the C.F. Lytle Company and built by the company for Ralph A. Bennett of Bennett Auto Supply Company. Originally conceived as a two-story facility for displaying, repairing, and parking automobiles, the design was expanded to four floors. The concrete frame building employs Claude A.P. Turner's flat slab framing system—a first for Sioux City—and was among the city's earliest reinforced, poured concrete structures. Its facade features glazed brick over common brick infill with decorative terra cotta elements. After A.L. Galinsky purchased the building in 1919, it was converted to office use and renamed the Commerce Building. A gabled Roof Garden with stucco cladding and Palladian windows was added between 1921 and 1923, accommodating a ballroom that hosted major social events and performances by notable musicians including Lawrence Welk. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
