Built circa 1910 in Maywood, Illinois, the Mrs. Henry F. Akin House is a one-story Prairie School bungalow designed by Tallmadge and Watson, the Chicago-area architects who pioneered the style. Commissioned for Elizabeth R. Akin, wife of former Maywood mayor Henry F. Akin, the home exemplifies early Prairie aesthetics through its stucco exterior, geometric wood banding, casement windows, and deep overhanging eaves. Among three Prairie School houses in Maywood designed by prominent practitioners, it stands as the only bungalow of the trio. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
