Headquartered in Hyderabad, India, the National Fisheries Development Board building is a striking example of novelty architecture designed by the Central Public Works Department and completed in April 2012. The four-storey structure is literally shaped like a giant fish, reportedly inspired by Frank Gehry's monumental 'Fish' sculpture in Barcelona (1992). The building integrates its mimetic form with functional design: the left pectoral fin serves as an awning above the entrance staircase, while two circular windows function as the creature's eyes. Clad entirely in stainless steel panels and elevated on pale blue pilotis except at the central core, the building creates a striking nighttime presence thanks to blue-purple spotlights that give the illusion of a giant fish swimming through the city.
