Built in 1936 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, this Old U.S. Post Office exemplifies the Mediterranean Revival and Neoclassical architectural styles favored during the New Deal era. One of thirty-two federal post offices constructed in Mississippi during the Great Depression under President Franklin Roosevelt's public buildings program, the structure represents a significant investment in civic infrastructure during that economically turbulent period. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 and designated a Mississippi Landmark, the building now serves as home to the Philadelphia police department.
