One Charles Center is a 23-story International Style skyscraper designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and built in Baltimore in 1962. Completed in thirteen months at a cost of $10,350,000, the aluminium and glass tower was the first modernistic office building in the city and a landmark of Baltimore's downtown urban renewal movement. The structure features a T-shaped tower topped by a concrete-faced podium and paved plaza, with metal trim and gray glass defining its aesthetic. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. After its original anchor tenant, CSX Corporation, vacated in the mid-1990s, the property was purchased by lawyer and Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos in 1996 for $6 million, followed by renovations that attracted new tenants to the space.
