One Vanderbilt is a 62-story supertall skyscraper completed in 2020 at the corner of 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox for developer SL Green Realty, the building rises 427 meters to its spire, making it New York City's fourth-tallest structure. The futurist design deliberately harmonizes with the adjacent Grand Central Terminal, featuring a wedge-shaped void at its base and a tapering profile punctuated by pavilions and a pinnacle. The facade combines extensive glass paneling with terracotta spandrels between floors, while the steel and concrete superstructure supports interior spaces rising as high as 105 feet. The building integrates a bank branch and Grand Central access at its base, the upscale Le Pavillon restaurant on the second floor, and extensive office space throughout; its uppermost stories house the Summit One Vanderbilt observation deck. The project, which acquired its site over a decade and broke ground in October 2016, was delayed by pandemic-related completion issues before opening to the public in September 2020.
